Electric BMW 'M' Models, Apple CarPlay review & Tougher caps on NOX emissions

Dirk Hacker, Vice president of BMW engineering this week told AutoExpress that "We will look at electrification [for M cars]—I think it could be inevitable—but it depends on the possibility of increasing performance.” He says they hope to add to the M experience but there are also concerns about weight due to the batteries that hybrids or plug-in hybrids require. Hacker then goes on to explain that “I don’t think it’s the best idea to get more and more power into these models. Our philosophy is to get the right balance between power and performance.”

Apple CarPlay is the newest trend on the Motoring market. Various car brands have taken on the technology which allows you to operate many of the iPhones features and apps via the cars touchscreen display. This is to eliminate the danger of operating a phone while its in a cradle/ dock. Only models of the iPhone 5 and above are compatible. Siri's voice will allow you to listen to voice mails, find contact numbers and read out messages. Also giving you access to iTunes, podcasts and radio as well as Apple mapping giving you turn-by-turn directions, traffic conditions and ETA. So the team at AutoExpress reviewed the new Apple CarPlay system against the Andriod Auto with Google and their verdict was they would choose the Andriod Auto with Google maps and access to multiple messaging apps.

European Parliament votes against tougher caps on NOx emmissions. MEP's have turned down the proposal which would of forced Brussels to rethink its plan for a new Nitrogen Oxide emissions regime. The new Real Driving Emissions Test is due for introduction in 2017, which will see vehicle tested in real world conditions. But the Automotive industry has said that this leniency is required in order to give them time to meet new requirements and allow for margins of error in emissions testing.
