UK Government plans for boost in the Electric Vehicle Market

Announced recently in the Queen's Speech, the UK seems to finally have a plan for the Electric vehicle market.

The clause in the Automated & Electric Vehicles Bill allows the Government "to require installation of charge points for electric vehicles at motorway service areas and large fuel retailers, and to require a set of common technical and operation standards. This will ensure that charge points are convenient to access and work seamlessly right across the UK". Great news for drivers & anyone considering an EV!

“The bill seeks to address key factors which could delay the wider roll out of these new technologies. While requiring the installation of charge points at motorway service areas and large fuel retailers only helps with certain types of journeys, charging at home and at workplaces is equally as important. All of this is with the aim to move forward and make a convenient access to a national charging network". As explained by Graham Armitage, partner and co-lead of mobility ecosystem at KPMG UK.

Under plans for 'Building a stronger economy' the Bill was introduced as the introductions of legislation "to ensure the UK remains a world leader in new industries, including electric cars, because of our structural advantages that should allow us to be early adopters of new mobility technologies. The benefit of connected and autonomous vehicles in the United Kingdom alone could be worth over £50 billion per year by 2030".

So are Electric & Autonomous vehicles the way forward or are Low emission vehicles still a big market competitor & better for the environment? Check out our latest Green Vehicle Deals on our website.
